WASHINGTON, DC — On Wednesday, February 5, Americans took to the streets in over 230 cities and towns across the country to reject Mitch McConnell and the GOP’s acquittal of President Donald Trump.

From coast to coast, the mobilizations called out GOP Senators for holding a trial without witnesses or evidence, working to cover up Trump’s numerous crimes.

In Washington DC, hundreds of activists and concerned citizens rallied on the steps of the Capitol Building to make their voices heard. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), who protested last night’s State of the Union address, joined the group and spoke out in solidarity.

“We’re here to reject Mitch McConnell’s coverup of Donald Trump’s crimes,” said Tae Phoenix, a singer songwriter from Seattle who spent five weeks in Washington, DC playing music with the #RemoveTrump movement. “Senate Republicans have once again shown their contempt for everyday Americans, the vast majority of whom demanded a real trial with witnesses and evidence. This sham acquittal is illegitimate. Court is still in session. We are the jury. Our verdict is due, in the streets, in our communities, and at the ballot box, every day for the rest of our lives.”

The demonstrations come on the heels of a wave of mobilizations last week that brought thousands to the Hill demanding witness and evidence be presented as part of the trial.

“Trump’s enablers in Congress, led by Mitch McConnell, have acquited the most corrupt president in the history of our country. This wasn’t a trial -- it was a sham!” said Jennifer Epps-Addison, Network President and Co-Executive Director of CPD Action. “Trump’s dangerous abuses of power have not only been left unchecked; they've been normalized and legitimized. We will not be fooled into thinking that this acquittal is anything more than a cover up -- and we’re united here to say we won’t stand for it. November is coming. That will be the real trial for this president. And we will make sure democracy serves justice.”

The mobilizations were organized by a coalition of national organizations, including Common Cause, CPD Action, Public Citizen, Stand Up America, By the People, and Women’s March.
