PD/A WELCOMES PRESIDENT’S PLAN TO PUT ECONOMY OVER CORPORATE PROFITS; CALLS FOR INVESTMENTS IN SYSTEMS OF CARE NOT CRIMINALIZATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 10, 2023) -- Yesterday afternoon President Biden released a budget that would invest billions of dollars into our economy and improve the lives of millions of low income families, all while strengthening Medicare, investing in housing and ensuring that the wealthy and corporations pay their taxes just like the rest of us.

Jennifer Flynn Walker, Co-Chief of Campaigns at the Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD/A), released the following statement in response:

“After months of hearing Republicans threaten to gut our social safety net in order to defend tax breaks for the wealthy, we were happy to see President Biden release a budget that responded to our demands for investment in critical needs including teachers, nurses, housing, election infrastructure, and harm reduction funding. Still, we were disappointed that the administration proposed increased funding for state and federal law enforcement, further criminalizing our communities and diverting funding away from real community safety. We know that the safest communities are those with access to affordable housing, healthcare, education, and the infrastructure needed to build an economy that doesn’t poison our air and water or destroy our climate. CPD/A and our allies will continue to lift up our communities and demand our leaders work for us, not their corporate donors.”
